Following are the easy-to-use steps to checking your engine oil.
Step One
Near your vehicle engine, find the oil dipstick. It should have a colored, ringed handle for easy removal. The dipstick allows for oil residue to coat the length of the stick, with notched indicators as to leveling.
Step Two
Start by removing the dipstick, and with a shop towel wipe it clean. Then, place it back into the reservoir in-full and remove once again.
Once removed, you'll be able to note oil levels and oil coloring. Should your engine oil be dark in color, it will need to be changed and replenished with fresh oil of an amber color. Usually, dark oil has been degraded if not contaminated, and does an engine's internal working parts no good.
