Engine oil starts off in the sump tank (oil pan), which is where your oil goes in, and comes out during changes. It is picked up by the oil pump, and then it travels through the filter, to remove particles, to the bearings, pistons, and valve train.
In these fast-moving parts, oil:
- Protects metal from contacting metal
- Cleans deposits and grime
- Cools the pistons by reducing friction
How do you keep your engine at the top of its game?
Older vehicle models required oil changes every 3,000 miles. Today, newer vehicles may only need an oil change every 7,500 miles.
