- Grab a clean rag
- Put shaving cream on the rag
- Smooth the shaving cream all over your windshield
- Wipe it off with a clean towel
This sounds too easy, and your instinct tells you that anything that sounds too simple to be true probably is. You've been burned by "life hacks" before.
This one, however, has a solid scientific foundation. If you don't believe it, test it out on your bathroom mirror next time you take a shower.
Shaving cream wipes off clear, but it leaves behind a residue of detergents. These detergents lower the surface tension of water so that it can't form into individual droplets that would scatter light. Instead of forming an opaque fog made up of tiny lens-like drops, the water clings to the glass in a flat sheet that is easy to see through.
Snorkelers will tell you about a similar trick used to de-fog swim masks -- they use baby shampoo, another product containing mild detergents.
Now you know how to survive a rainy Schenectady spring fog-free, so browse for pre-owned cars near Albany at Wedekind Motors.
