The Mythbusters are back with another car myth. Your car may have keyless entry. Simply push a button on your key fob, and the door unlocks. It works on a high-pitched frequency that it sends to the car, wirelessly telling it to unlock.
So, what if you lock your key inside, and have your roommate at home press the unlock button on your spare key fob. Can that door-unlocking frequency transmit through the phone?
As Grant Imahara explains, no. The human voice operates at a range of about 85-255 hertz. The car fob works in the hundreds of megahertz range, far too high to be picked up by a cell phone microphone.
Grant's prediction turned out to be correct. Alas, if you've locked your key in the car, there's no easy fix.
